Video: The Thames at Sunset

A friend invited us his new digs in Woolwich, in the docklands of the Thames in London. He suggested we take an Uber home.

An Uber?

I never thought that I would see the sun set over London from an Uber on the Thames. Yes, Uber now runs ferries on the Thames under a partnership with Thames Clippers. You just swipe a credit card and hop aboard. They won’t take you to the bouncy area where the Thames meets the North Sea, or to Oxford, far up the river, but for short trips they are the way to go.

We hopped on board and cruised past the Thames Barrier, that rises with the tides to protect London from flooding from the sometimes angry North Sea, past Greenwich and the silhouette of the clipper ship Cutty Sark and the Royal Observatory, where time begins. We Ubered under the Millennium Bridge.

As the sun set, we got a glimpse of London’s new and old skylines, watching the sun set behind the London Bridge as Big Ben chimed away.
