We who have lived through the California drought are heading for the mountains and doing snow angels. We’ve always celebrated the first snows of the season. After that, maybe not so much. The Kiss 2015

Brazilian street artist Eduardo Kobra painted this tribute to Alfred Eisenstaedt’s famous The Kiss photograph, which celebrated the ending of World War II. Eisenstaedt shot the original in New York’s Times Square. Kobra’s mural is visible from the Highline on 25th Street and 10th Avenue.

Catching up with the Woman in Gold

I have been chasing a woman around the world and finally met her in New York. But the beautiful Adele Bloch-Bauer, popularized in the movie, “Woman in Gold” starring Helen Mirren, was now gazing at me as I gazed at her in her portrait in the Neue Galerie in New York City.

I grew up in cold climes and always looked forward to the winter’s first day of snow, when Krispy Kreme white covered everything from trees to trashcans. After that, not so much. But new snow on the first day of spring? That’s what happened in New York last week when I took a walk around the park….Central Park.

Topsy Turvy in New York: The Chelsea Hotel Changes Hands (Video)

Chelsea Hotel New York

The legendary Chelsea Hotel in New York City has changed hands.

Again.

Stanley Bard, proprietor of this hive of artists and eccentrics sold it in 2011. A developer proceeded to remodel, removing the art from the walls, raising the ire of residents, some 100 of them who can’t be evicted.  It just sold again to a luxury hotel developer. Some of the tenants remain, but the place will never be the same as when I revived the good old days with Stanley in 2001.
