Gear & Gloating in Las Vegas
Posted on January 17, 2007

OK, I just took down the Christmas tree, stashed the snowglobes, set the Roomba to the task of sweeping up the detritus of Christmas last. Been away in Las Vegas for the monster Consumer Electronics Show, where the gloat sweeps across the desert like a storm of flying lizards. I do a little tech TV show at Lunch@Piero’s, my wife’s private media event across the street from mob at the LV Convention Center. You can find it on iTunes, YouTube and on the Lunch@Piero’s blog.
To be fair, CES wasn’t all hype. There are some neat products outside of the “Best of Show” stuff. (Who cares about a DVD player that accepts both Blu-Ray and HDVD? Who gives a toss about your format wars…WORK IT OUT)! There was also a more interesting phone than the over-hyped, over-priced Apple iPhone. Consider the OpenMOKO. It is open source, like Linux, and lets you install FREE services rather than paying your carrier for each one. Or how about a full, palm-sized computer that is powerful enough to work as a HDTV video player? Or consider if you will, a piece of software that you can install in your mobile phone that can give you ten local numbers in foreign countries.
Stay tuned this week.
